A ROGUELIKE TALE OF COMEDY AND REVENGE

Primest Evil is the story of the self-called Prime Evil, the biggest bad in their stretch of the fantasy world – a fantastically talented and powerful magician who, unfortunately, was too big a jerk to their own subordinates to be allowed to live.  So they weren’t.  Allowed to live, that is.

But nobody expected the Prime Evil to return from the grave, and with a combination of raw fury, nerve, and pure magical might, the Prime Evil blazes a trail of revenge as they seek to reclaim that which was taken from them.

No one knows from whence they came, but when the magician known as the Prime Evil rose to power, none were prepared to resist.  The Prime Evil, with the help of four powerful lieutenants and an army of monsters at their back, ruled over an empire of nations and dimensions from the pan-dimensional complex known as the Inverse Tower.  Now a wave of evil  has spread throughout the land, and darkness fell!

But even a master of evil is not invulnerable, especially from themselves.  And on the day of the Prime Evil’s ascendancy – also their birthday – their abominable treatment of their own minions came to bite them in the end.  Murdered at their very own birthday/ascendancy celebration (attendance mandatory) the Prime Evil seemed to be consigned to history.

Evil never dies, however, and neither would the Prime.  Having long ago mastered the secrets of necromancy, the once-living magician rises from a secret tomb as a lich!  Undying and clothed with magical power, the Prime Evil now seeks to regain their stolen power, punish the disloyal, and lay waste to whatever empire their traitorous lieutenants have cobbled together in their wake, no matter how many times they must rise from the grave to do it.

Forget the Prime Evil, become the Prime-est Evil!  Why do things halfway?

The Prime Evil

The player character.  Ambitious, venal, and generally a horrible person (albeit through a comic lens,) the Prime Evil seeks to retake the Inverse Tower and return command over all the forces of evil once at their beck and call.  Though murdered by their lieutenants some time ago, the Prime Evil's command over dark sorcery allows them to rise again as an undying (albeit greatly diminished) lich, prepared and capable of getting their revenge.

But of course, one vengeful creature (however powerful) does not an empire make, and evil geniuses are very short in supply. The Prime Evil will have to bend those whom he defeats to his service — you know, again — and attempt to rebuild their lost realms with the help of old friends and foes alike without managing to trigger a rebellion all over again.

Madame Gravekeeper

The lone supporter of the Prime Evil remaining after their demise, it is Madame Gravekeeper who gathers and places their body within the Great Tomb.  Normally she oversees the Cemetery of Heroes, the burial ground for all those would-be heroes slain while assaulting the Endless Tower; many picked pockets later she has assembled sufficient fortune and store of magical items to not only conspire with dragons to protect the Great Tomb but offer a wide variety of magical weapons to be purchased by the Prime Evil.  After all, all that gold won't last forever - a lady has to further pad her pockets if she's to keep the dragons happy and protection over the Cemetery maintained.

Director Fluffington

Leader of the Plague Rats, master of eccentric science, misunderstood genius, cheese enthusiast.  When the Prime Evil once conquered the ancient dungeon-ruins that would become the Warrens, they were made aware of the particular spark of intelligence that its rodents possessed.  Through alchemical mutagenics, the Prime Evil 'uplifted' the biggest of these rats into Director Fluffington, giving the rat preternatural intelligence and gifting him the ability to use the long-disused scientific apparatus that mouldered in its halls, along with a staff of uplifted lesser rats to assist him.  This...turned out to be a disaster, as instead of brewing plagues to assist in the Prime Evil's campaigns, the rats became obsessed with cheese of all types and focused their demented scientific experiements upon that subject.  Wit the death of the Prime Evil, however, Fluffington now sits at the head of an impressive technological operation, creating new mutagens and weapons to be used by the highest bidder.

Kuran, The Skeleton King

The first kingdom conquered by the Prime Evil remains nameless, but its king does not: in a final outrage, after striking down good King Kuran, the Prime Evil transformed the great bear of a man into an undead warrior, meant to guard the very palace where once he faced his ultimate defeat.  Here the old warriors of his army have all been twisted and turned to the service of evil, as has he - but with the Prime Evil having been ousted, King Kuran and his legions have turned their former castle grounds into one big feast hall, carrying out the longest, most hardcore celebratory bender dead folks have ever done. And when the Prime Evil arrives to crash the party, they’ll be happy to try and settle past scores.  Of course, because nothing is so simple as they seem, there's much more to Kuran's fate than a battle of good versus evil...

Jan'ii'hn The Accounter / Janine From Accounting

Overseer of the Tower's vaults and treasure and one of the Prime Evil's former four lieutenants.  A powerful demon in her own right, ruling her own dimension dedicated to the counting of sins and mortal punishment, the Prime Evil assigned new duties to Jan'ii'hn once their forces overwhelmed her own and conquered her land.  She retains command of her plane and her people, but for a purpose the Evil needed much more in order to maintain their budding empire: accounting.  Once tallyers of the wicked, Jan'ii'hn and her minions now labor over desks in stone cubicles on vast floors that had played host to torture devices and racks of wailing souls, counting all the treasures that the Prime Evil (and now, their replacement) have streaming into their vaults.  Jan'ii'hn is a creature of strict order - obsessed with it, even - and has no mercy for those attempting to disrupt the harmony of her torture-halls-turned-office-building, especially her old boss. (She goes by Janine now, naturally.)

The Wizard Of What?! (aka Geoff)

The Wizard of What was one of the mighty champions of the Prime Evil and the only other dedicated spellcaster in their council.  The dedicated conduit of the power of chaos magic, the Wizard is not so much a spellcaster as a spell-thinker - as in, he thinks it, and it happens.  Magic employed by the Wizard of What is experienced like a batch of the wrong kind of mushrooms, which as it happens is how he gained his power in the first place.  Unlike his former master and his current colleagues, the Wizard does not have the same towering, epic countenance as the rest -- he's just a dude in a blue terry cloth bathrobe with stars sewn on, albeit with eerie light blazing from mouth and eyes.

Minions of Evil

Filling the various ‘departments’ of the Inverse Tower, a wide variety of creatures and monsters serve their masters in the prosecution of their various agendas. From Plague Rats to mutant slimes, office goblins to libarbarians, this cast of characters serve as both obstacle and ally to the Prime Evil as they carry out their campaign to retake the Tower and their supremacy.
