I’ve been in the game industry for just over ten years now, having gotten my start at 5th Cell, where I worked on the Drawn to Life and Scribblenauts franchises. After five years, I moved down to California to join the awesome team at WayForward. I spent three years at WayForward, working on things like Shantae, Adventure Time, and even ended up voicing Billy and Jimmy Lee in Double Dragon Neon (dream come true)! After my time there, I joined Tic Toc Games, helping their development team make design changes for a successfully Kickstarted project called Adventures of Pip.
Beyond game design, I’m also a singer, ex-chef, and self-taught cryptozoologist. I’ve sung for multiple video games, and even an animated web series called OK K.O.! – Let’s Be Heroes, produced by Cartoon Network. What’s cryptozoology, you may ask? Well, it’s the search for and study of animals whose existence or survival is disputed or unsubstantiated. Growing up in Washington State, Bigfoot is kind of a BIG deal. Even if there’s no absolute proof that these cryptids exist, I’m of the notion that it doesn’t hurt to wonder ‘what if?’
So, how does a game designing cryptozoologist join the Grumpy Witch team? Well, a mutual friend told Michael, our trusty leader, to contact me due to my experience with platformers. For a period of time, I acted as a general design consultant for the team, then was asked if I wanted to join the team full-time. Under the circumstances, I couldn’t say “no.”
As my title would suggest, my role on Grumpy Witch is to help shape the overall design of the game. Specifically, I’m working closely with the other designers on the team to make adjustments to the different systems in the game, create fun and unique levels, and design engaging enemies and bosses. Above all, my goal is to use my past experience with 2D platformers to help make Grumpy Witch the best game it can possibly be! I can’t wait to show you some of the awesome stuff we’re cooking up in Emilia’s Cauldron, and I sure hope you are as excited about this project as we all are!
